A prominent Sikh Gurdwara located at 7080 Dixie Road in Mississauga, Ontario. As the largest Gurdwara Sahib in North America, OKD offers a variety of religious, educational, and community services. Here are some activities and services you might consider:
OKD conducts daily programs including Nitnem (morning prayers), Gurbani Kirtan (hymn singing), Katha Veechar (scriptural discourse), Dhadi Vaaran, and Kavishri in the Main Hall. The daily schedule typically begins with Prakash di Seva and Simran from 4:00 AM to 5:00 AM. Evening Waheguru Simran sessions are held on Tuesdays and Fridays from 6:05 PM to 7:30 PM.
The Gurdwara offers Gurmat classes for children and adults, covering topics like Gurmukhi, Punjabi language, Sikh history, Gurbani (scriptural recitation), Gurmat Sangeet (Kirtan), and Tabla (a traditional musical instrument). Classes are held on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM and 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM, respectively, with a family program on Fridays from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM. A monthly fee of $50 applies.
OKD actively participates in community welfare activities, such as organizing blood donation camps in collaboration with Canadian Blood Services. These camps are typically held twice a year, in June and November, to commemorate significant Sikh events.
In 2010, OKD established a Multimedia Sikh Museum, the first of its kind outside India. The museum utilizes multimedia technology to showcase the history and culture of Sikhism, providing visitors with an immersive educational experience (Under-construction).
The library, situated near the Langar Hall, functions as an essential center for knowledge and culture, committed to safeguarding and advancing the profound heritage of Sikhism.
A fundamental aspect of Gurdwara life is the Langar, a free community kitchen that serves meals to all visitors, regardless of background or belief. At OKD, the Langar operates from early morning until 9:00 PM, offering nutritious and delicious vegetarian meals.
We hosts various religious and cultural events throughout the year, such as Nagar Kirtans (processions) celebrating festivals like Vaisakhi and Bandhi Chhor Divas. These events attract large crowds and feature devotional singing, community service, and cultural performances.
The Gurdwara organizes seasonal camps and festivals, including the OKD Gurmat Camp and Sports Festival. These events offer spiritual learning, physical activities, and community bonding opportunities.
The Gurdwara features a range of sports facilities, including a basketball court, a soccer field, and a volleyball court, along with numerous other indoor and outdoor amenities aimed at serving the community’s needs. Additionally, we offer on-site training facilities for various sports such as hockey, soccer, karate, Gatka, and more.
In 2020, OKD developed the Kiratpur Park along the Etobicoke Creek behind the Gurdwara. This serene space allows families to scatter the ashes of departed loved ones, providing a peaceful environment for reflection and remembrance.
